The bomb was discovered in a household garden in Yen Hoa Commune, Minh Hoa District while digging a drainage ditch with an excavator at a depth of one metre.

On Tuesday, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) co-operated with the Quang Binh Provincial Military Command. It safely relocated the bomb out of the residential area.
The bomb was taken to a storage area to wait to be detonated.
The MK81 bomb has a lethal radius of up to 1.5 kilometres, posing a significant threat to the safety of the surrounding community.
Large numbers of wartime bombs have been detected in Quang Binh.
The Ministry of Defense said that nearly 225,000 hectares of land across Quang Binh were affected by unexploded ordnance (UXO). Landmine or UXO accidents have claimed more than 2,930 lives in the province.
