The HCM City Department of Agriculture and Environment has proposed a VND 141 billion (USD 5.64 million) project to install boundary markers for the corridors of rivers, streams, canals, and public lakes.

Under the recommendation sent to the HCM City People’s Committee, the project will cover 55 rivers, canals, and public lakes, with a total survey length of 516 kilometres and a high-bank edge length of about 850 kilometres, involving around 20,000 boundary markers.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment consider boundary marking essential, as years of illegal construction and land reclamation along rivers and canals have seriously undermined management, increased erosion risks, and threatened the safety of residents living on both banks.

Once implemented, the project will provide a legal basis for authorities to inspect and address violations, maintain the stability of irrigation and embankment works, and ensure order and safety in waterway traffic.
