Vingroup proposes sea-crossing road linking Can Gio and Vung Tau

Vingroup has submitted a pre-feasibility study to build a 14.6 km sea-crossing road between Can Gio and Vung Tau, with an estimated cost of VND 104,410 billion (USD 4.0 billion).

The proposed route would begin at Bien Dong 2 Road in the Can Gio reclaimed coastal urban area, traverse Ghenh Rai Bay, and end at the planned Mai Sao-Ben Dinh Intersection and 30/4 Street in Tam Thang Ward.

The project has a total length of about 14.6 km, including more than 10.8 km of sea-crossing structures, comprising a cable-stayed bridge and an immersed tunnel, with the remainder consisting of approach roads. The design includes four motor-vehicle lanes and two mixed-traffic lanes.

Once operational, the route is expected to cut travel time between the two areas from 90-120 minutes to just over 10 minutes.

The project aims to enhance coastal connectivity between Can Gio Commune and Vung Tau Ward, promote economic development, logistics and tourism, and relieve pressure on National Highway 51.

Vingroup has recommended starting construction in 2026 and completing the project by 2029. The company proposes to advance all investment and site-clearance costs, with the State later reimbursing it with land of equivalent value.

Ho Chi Minh City has allowed Vingroup to prepare investment documents, but this does not guarantee it will be chosen as the project investor, as the final selection will be made through a legal bidding process.
