Vietnam earned nearly USD 4.78 billion from coffee exports in the first five months of 2025, marking a 65.3 per cent year-on-year increase, despite export volume rising only 0.9 per cent to 834,000 tonnes.

The figures, recently released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, show that the sharp increase in export value was primarily driven by a record average price of USD 5,726 per tonne.

Global coffee supply has declined due to prolonged droughts in Brazil and Vietnam, while demand has surged in Europe, the United States, and Asia.

Arabica and processed coffee products contributed significantly to the value growth, with domestic companies boosting deep processing and leveraging tariff advantages under free trade agreements. Key export markets include Germany, Italy, the United States, and Japan. Notably, Mexico’s imports of Vietnamese coffee surged 55-fold to over USD 71 million.

Coffee remains a bright spot in Vietnam’s agricultural export sector, which reached a total of USD 28.04 billion in the first five months, up 15.4 per cent from the same period last year. Of this, crop products accounted for USD 14.76 billion (up 27.7 per cent), forestry products USD 6.93 billion (down 9.9 per cent), seafood USD 3.64 billion (up 6.5 per cent), and livestock products USD 199 million (up 4.8 per cent).
