Two Vietnamese fishermen in the southern province of An Giang were shot dead while fishing illegally in Cambodian waters, Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Nam, Commander of the Vinh Nguon Border Guard Station in An Giang reported.
On July 14 a group of four Vietnamese fishermen sailed a small boat to Cambodia’s Chay Chok Commune, Prey Cholasar District, Takeo Province, around 2.5 km from the Vietnam-Cambodia border for fishing.

The group includes Le Hoang Dat (30 years old), Nguyen Thanh Liem (28), Phan Van Loi (29) and Le Ngoc Nha (34) all from Chau Doc Town, An Giang Province.
While the Vietnamese men were fishing, six armed people in camouflage uniforms jumped on the boat and a clash occurred. The Cambodians shot the Vietnamese men, killing Liem and injuring Nha and Loi. Dat and Loi managed to escape to return Vietnam, while Nha was detained by the Cambodians. Loi is now at hospital getting treatment for his injury.
This morning, Dang Van Nam, Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Takeo Province, confirmed that fisherman Le Van Nha had died just several hours after being shot and detained by the Cambodian forces. His body was taken to Vietnam on July 17.
Earlier, Nha was also sent two Cambodian hospitals for the treatment; however, he died due to the serious injuries.
An Giang Province's Border Guard Force worked with representatives from Takeo Province's police force, urging an investigation into the case.
