A total of 64.2 million computers across the country were infected with different types of viruses in 2011, said Bkav, a leading antivirus software company in Vietnam.

According to Bkav, as many as 38,961 new types of viruses appeared in Vietnam during 2011. The W32.Sality.PE virus topped the list for attacking over 4.2 million computers.
Last year, up to 2,245 websites of businesses and organisations were hacked by viruses nationwide. This means that on average, 187 websites were attacked each month.
More online swindling
Bkav recorded an average of 30 cases of scams via Yahoo Messenger per month during 2011. In several cases, the number of victims mounted to dozens of pepple.
Facebook has also become a useful tool for hackers. During the last days of 2011, Bkav detected the first viruses spread by Facebook chat.
Last year, Vietnam also saw a large number of websites hacked. Over 85,000 of computers nationwide have been been attacked by the Ramnit virus, which enables hackers to take important information from victims' computers.
In 2012, together with the boom in the number of smartphone users, the country may experience the fast development of viruses on mobile phones, Bkav added.
