
Moderna vaccine arrives in Vietnam
By the end of July 12, over eight million doses had arrived in Vietnam. Via COVAX Facility, over one million doses of Pfizer will be transferred to Vietnam from July to September. COVAX Facility also shows support to transfer mRNA technology to Vietnam. Experts will be sent to Vietnam to help Vietnam become one of the vaccine manufacturers in the region.
The US has also included Vietnam in the priority list for vaccines and the American firms signed contracts to transfer technology to Vietnam. The UK also promised to include Vietnam in the priority list when it gives 100 million doses of vaccines to COVAX Facility. The UK is also willing to negotiate about technology transfer and other support.
Japan gave two million doses of AstraZeneca and will give another one million doses on July 16. Japan will work with Vietnam on clinical trials and technology transfer. Australia committed to provide Vietnam with USD10m and provide 1.5 million doses of AstraZeneca by the end of 2021.
Other countries have also provided supports. Russia gave 1,000 doses of Sputnik-V, South Korea gave 30 million syringes and UNICEF gave 1,910 cold storage and called for USD10m to support the national immunisation programme in 2021-2023.
