Vietnam on Friday morning received one more million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine including over 400,000 doses donated by Japan.
This was the third batch of Covid-19 vaccines donated as non-refundable aid by Japan for Vietnam. So far Japan has sent about 1.8 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Vietnam, including nearly 1 million doses delivered on June 16 and around 400,000 doses on July 2.
Also on Friday morning, 580,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine which was bought by the Vietnam Vaccine JSC arrived at the Tay Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.
With these additional batches, Vietnam has so far received a total of over 5.8 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines, including nearly 2.5 million doses from the COVAX Facility, nearly one million doses bought by the Vietnam Vaccine JSC, some 1.8 million doses donated by Japan, 500,000 doses granted by China and more than 97,000 doses ordered from Pfizer/BioNTech.
An additional two million doses of Moderna Covid-19 Vaccine will be sent to Vietnam on July 10 via the Covax Facility according to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu.
According to the official, besides the Covax Facility, Russia has provided 1,000 doses and promised 20 million doses in 2021. Russia will also work with Vabiotech to transfer the vaccine technology to Vietnam in July. Japan sent one million doses to Vietnam on June 16 and promised another million doses. Japan will also sell and transfer the vaccine technology.
