
Vietnam men's football team defeat Thailand in the final on May 22 to defend the Southeast Asian Games gold medal.
This was the first reward that the team received after they defeated Thailand in the final on Sunday to defend the Southeast Asian Games gold medal.
Head of Vietnam's sports delegation at SEA Games 31, Tran Duc Phan also announced that he would present the team with VND 100 million.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on May 22 evening sent congratulations to the men’s U23 football team and coach ParkHang-seo on their victory.
In his letter, the government leader recalled great moments in the final as the team successfully defended their title.
He expressed his delight and appreciation for the efforts, bravery, resilience, and discipline of the team, saying that it was a victory that reflected Vietnam's spirit of unity.
"The team’s victory, along with the champion of the women's football team and achievements of athletes in other sports at SEA Games 31, has underlined the position of Vietnamese football, and Vietnamese sports in general in the region," the PM wrote.
PM Chinh added that more attention would be paid to the country’s sporting success from organisations, individuals and businesses.
The PM also thanked fans nationwide for supporting the men's and women's football teams.
He suggested the Central Emulation and Rewards Council, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and relevant ministries propose appropriate rewards for the players and coaches of the football teams and other high-achieving athletes at the games.
