Local authorities in Cam Thuy Commune said the rock broke loose from Go Che Mountain at around 4 am and smashed into the kitchen of Nguyen Thi Tham’s house in Duong Dinh Hue Village.
The boulder stopped about three metres from the bedroom where Tham, 40, and her two children were sleeping.

The landslide destroyed the family’s kitchen, while smaller rocks also fell into the gardens of two neighbouring households.
Authorities evacuated three households living near the foot of the mountain, cordoned off the area and issued warnings over further landslide risks.
The Thanh Hoa Hydro-Meteorological Station said thunderstorms and heavy rain on Friday raised the risk of flash floods, landslides and ground subsidence in 14 mountainous communes, including Cam Thuy.
Since the start of 2026, Thanh Hoa has recorded dozens of hailstorms, thunderstorms and tornadoes that have damaged more than 8,000 houses and caused widespread agricultural losses.
