Le Cong Dien, deputy director of Hue’s Department of Construction, said the city had approved a disaster recovery and traffic safety project worth more than VND 17 billion (USD 650,000) for Road 14B running through Long Quang Commune.
Dien said an independent consultancy had been hired to survey and assess the unstable slope above the km34+800 section because of the complexity of the landslide area.

Geological drilling and surveys found the damage was not a typical landslide, with long cracks forming across the hillside and nearly half of the mountain mass shifting, he said.
Under the approved plan, contractors will remove the unstable soil mass and cut down the mountain slope to the sliding zone before constructing retaining embankments, rainwater drainage systems and anti-erosion works.
Dien warned that conventional retaining walls alone would not provide a lasting solution, as heavy rain could trigger further landslides and send rocks and soil cascading onto the road below.
The Department of Construction aims to complete the stabilisation work before the upcoming storm season.
Heavy and prolonged flooding in late 2025 triggered multiple landslides across Long Quang Commune, with the most serious occurring at the km34+800 section of Road 14B, the main access route to the commune centre. At the time, the commune was nearly isolated after large volumes of soil and rock collapsed onto the road.
Local residents said cracks first appeared on the hillside on October 29 last year before the slope gave way.
Authorities said the unstable mountain slope continues to threaten nearby households and passing traffic.
Le Vu Hien, deputy director of the Area 3 Construction Investment Project Management Board, said 12 households would be affected by land clearance for the project, covering more than 15,000 square metres, mostly agricultural land.
The project management board has completed land surveys, asset inventories and compensation assessments, and submitted documents to local authorities for the next steps in the land acquisition process.
