Black pepper made up over 66 per cent of Vietnam's pepper exports in the first quarter. The US remained the top market, while Canada surged nearly 300 per cent.

Vietnamese pepper was exported to 110 countries and territories in the first quarter, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, citing Customs Department data. Black pepper accounted for 66.32 per cent of the country’s total pepper export volume during the period.

Black pepper posted the strongest export performance, with shipments reaching 43,800 tonnes worth USD 288.7 million, up 42.2 per cent in volume and 38.8 per cent in value compared with the same period in 2025.

In March alone, Vietnam exported 3,800 tonnes of black pepper, an increase of 23.2 per cent year on year. The average export price in the first quarter was USD 7,443 per tonne, down 0.3 per cent from a year earlier.

Vietnam exported black pepper to 42 markets in the first quarter. The United States remained the largest destination, accounting for 46.11 per cent of total export volume.

In the first two months of the year, the United States imported pepper from 31 markets, eight fewer than in the same period of 2025. Vietnam maintained its position as the largest supplier, accounting for 80.74 per cent of total import volume, up from 60.93 per cent a year earlier.

Official data showed that Vietnam’s black pepper exports rose across most major markets in the first quarter, except Japan and Germany, where shipments declined.

Canada emerged as the fastest growing market for Vietnamese black pepper, with export volume surging 292.5 per cent and export value rising 210.8 per cent year on year to 670 tonnes worth USD 4.92 million.

Exports also recorded strong growth in several other markets, including the Netherlands, Australia, Thailand, South Korea and South Africa.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, overall US pepper imports declined compared with the same period in 2025, mainly due to falling supplies from countries outside Vietnam. Meanwhile, Vietnam continued to strengthen its position as the leading supplier, posting significant gains in both export volume and market share.
