Experts from the Vietnam Department of Geology and Minerals make an on-site survey of mineral potential in the Central Central region.
Experts conducted a preliminary assessment of six copper mines, with estimated reserves of over 154,000 tonnes of metallic copper. They also surveyed and assessed block stone reserves used for cladding and decorative purposes in 17 areas that are known for high-quality stones with attractive colours and patterns, containing industrial minerals.
The information was unveiled at a meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MoAE)’s meeting on April 11 to review the progress of the Project on Comprehensive Assessment of Mineral Potential in the Central Central Region.
The project, launched in 2025, is being implemented in the provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, and the mountainous areas of Da Nang City. Its objective is to comprehensively assess the mineral potential of metallic ores, uranium ore, industrial minerals, and block stones used for cladding and decorative purposes.
Speaking at the meeting, MoAE Deputy Minister Tran Quy Kien noted that the survey results have high economic value, clarifying the mineral resource potential of the region. These findings serve the implementation of broader socio-economic development planning as well as specific plans for the exploration, mining, processing, and use of various minerals in the region.
Kien requested that the Vietnam Department of Geology and Minerals instruct relevant units to urgently review the workload based on newly discovered geological and mineral data. He also emphasized the need to evaluate mineral areas with significant potential and propose appropriate adjustments to ensure the project’s objectives and tasks are met.
Previously, the Vietnam Department of Geology and Minerals discovered 40 gold mines with total estimated reserves of nearly 30 tonnes in the Northwestern Region. Among them, Bac Kan and Tuyen Quang have 8 mines each; Lai Chau 5; Thanh Hoa and Nghe An 4 each; Lang Son and Cao Bang 3 each; Ha Giang and Yen Bai 2 each; and Dien Bien 1. In addition to gold, the associated minerals found include silver, copper, and antimony.
