Vietnam reported 247 new locally-infected Covid-19 cases in 10 localities from 6 am to 12:30 pm on Monday with HCM City accounting for the highest number, according to the Ministry of Health.
Among the new infections, HCM City recorded 196 cases. The runners up were Binh Duong (17), Long An (13), Phu Yen (6), Bac Giang (4), Vinh Long (3), Dong Thap (3), Quang Ngai (2), Ha Tinh (2), Bac Ninh (1).
Of the figure, 220 were found in quarantined and locked down areas, while the others in HCM City, Long An and Quang Ngai are still under epidemic investigations.
HCM City has overtaken the northern province of Bac Giang to become the largest hotspot in Vietnam, recording hundreds of new cases on a daily basis. The city has to date confirmed more than 6,000 new cases during the latest outbreak since late April.
As of 12:30 on Monday, Vietnam logged 18,650 locally-transmitted Covid-19 patients 1,858 others from abroad.
Yen Bai, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Tuyen Quang, Son La, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, Dien Bien, Vinh Phuc, Hai Duong, Phu Tho, Quang Nam and Ha Nam have gone through 14 days without detecting any new cases.
The country has reported 90 Covid-19-related deaths.
