Vietnam confirms additional 166,207 Covid-19 infections, tally nears 8 million

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Sunday reported an additional 166,207 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's patient tally to over 7.95 million.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Sunday reported an additional 166,207 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's patient tally to over 7.95 million.

According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (19,065), Nghe An (9,333), Phu Tho (5,747), Lang Son (4,635), and Dak Lak (4,595). The northern province of Vinh Phuc today added 25,056 more cases to the national tally.

As of Sunday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 7,958,048. The country now stands 14th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include Hanoi (1,170,170), HCM City (582,747), Binh Duong (359,557), Nghe An (345,848), and Hai Duong (314,225).

On March 20, an additional 111,635. more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 4,103,028.

On Sunday evening, a further 63 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 41,880. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Gia Lai (7), Hanoi (4), An Giang (3), Dak Lak (3), Dong Nai (3), Kien Giang (3), Phu Tho (3), and Tra Vinh (3).

Vietnam on March 19 administered 93,985 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 201.66 million.
