Vietnam bans some second-hand IT imports

As of February 15, 2010 on, any types of second-hand mobile phones, cameras, computers, and printers will be prohibited from importing into Vietnam.

Beginning February 15, 2010, any types of second-hand mobile phones, cameras, computers, and printers will be prohibited from importing into Vietnam, said the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC).

According to Circular No. 43/2009/TT-BTTTT, released by the MIC on December 30, 2009, the list of prohibited IT imports consists of eight groups, such as telephones even mobile phones; equipment of transmitting or receiving sound, images, information; video-cameras, and digital cameras.

Office devices including printers, copy machines, fax machines, computers, projectors, and electric cables are also named in the list.

However, these types of commodities can be brought into the country in case of warranty, maintenance, repair, or reproduction for re-export.

Products like laptops, monitors and IP television devices are excluded from the list if they are produced less than three years up to the date of customs statement./.
