According to the ministry's report, both elderly female patients had severe underlying medical conditions before being infected with coronavirus.

One of them is a 64-year-old woman from the northern province of Bac Giang Province who was suffering from cerebrovascular disease and polyarthritis.

She tested positive for coronavirus on May 26 and was hospitalised with high fever and sore throat. On May 31, the patient was sent to Bac Giang Lung Hospital after experiencing difficulty breathing.

Despite being given intensive treatment, her condition continued to worsen and she was moved to the Intensive Care Centre of Bac Giang Psychiatric Hospital on June 12. The patient died on June 28.

The other patient was a 85-year-old woman in Ho Chi Minh City. Before having coronavirus, she was suffering from hypertension and type 2 diabetes.

On June 7, she was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. She was sent to the Cu Chi Field Hospital for Covid-19 patients for treatment but was later transferred to the Ho Chi Minh City City Hospital for Tropical Diseases the same day as her condition worsened.

The patient died on June 28 from respiratory failure and septic shock in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes, and pneumonia caused by Covid-19.
