Trump arrived in Da Nang on November 10 and delivered a speech at the APEC CEO Summit. He emphasised that the US is willing to work with all present leaders and offered an equal and beneficial relationship.
On the same day, Trump and other leaders attended the ABAC Dialogue with APEC Economic Leaders. He will leave for Hanoi on November 11 after the meeting with 21 leaders of the APEC economies.
This is the first Vietnam visit of Trump during his first year as the US president. It is hoped that this will help boost the relationship between the two countries. The comprehensive partnership continues to develop positively, especially after the successful visit of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to the US from May 29 to 31.
According to State President Tran Dai Quang, Vietnam is the first stop of Trump's first visit to South-east Asia. This holds an important meaning to the two countries relationship and a message about the US' policy in Asia-Pacific.
The Ministry of Foreign Affair said Vietnam treasured the relationship with the US on the basis of respect for each country's political institutions, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and was ready to work with the Trump administration.
