The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) on Tuesday in Hanoi jointly organized the seventh UN seminar on the implementation of UN-initiated Resolution 1540 on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
In four days from September 28 to October 1, participants from 10 ASEAN member states and the Caribbean Community, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) are expected to share their experience of enforcing the Resolution and seek ways towards the formation of a cooperative mechanism between the UN and Southeast Asia.
In addition, delegates will also deliver different speeches concerning the management over export, re-export, transit, as well as trade facilitation.
Since the Resolution was first introduced in 2004, Southeast Asian countries have engaged in almost all international agreements on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
This is the seventh seminar held by the UN, and the first one in Southeast Asia, on the implementation of Resolution 1540.
