Typhoon Rammasun, which made landfall in Vietnam on July 19, claimed a total of 27 lives in the northern mountainous provinces as of this morning (July 22).
Typhoon Rammasun has caused great losses for many localities
Two people are still missing and two other injured, according to the National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control.
The storm hit Lang Son Province particularly hard, with many areas flooded and scattered piles of debris strewn about. Local waste treatment facilities have been working at full capacity to deal with the clean-up.
The storm damaged more than 200 ha of agricultural fields as well as many roads.
Damages in Lao Cai Province are estimated to have been VND30 billion (USD14.2 million). By 5pm on July 21, 35 households were destroyed due to flooding and landslides.
Ha Giang Province reported seven fatalities and at least 171 flooded homes.
By this morning the storm had lost much of its intensity, giving some relief from the rain to many northern localities. Local authorities are providing what aid they can to help residents of affected areas return to normal life.
