
The fishing boat sinks on July 12
Authorities of Phu Quoc City announced on the evening of July 12 that they were searching for two missing fishermen whose boat sank while on the way to shore to avoid a rainstorm.
According to a report from local authorities, a fishing boat with seven crew members aboard was returning to shore in Duong Dong Ward at 3.30 pm on July 12 when it was sunken by strong wind and high waves. Five fishermen managed to swim to shore while two others remained missing.
Phu Quoc Island witnessed heavy rains between July 10-12 that damaged 41 houses and sank three fishing boats anchored at a wharf in Ganh Dau Commune.
The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that between July 12-13, southern coastal areas would continue to see heavy rains, strong winds and high waves of between 2-4 metres.
All ships and ferries on Phu Quoc, Rach Gia, Phu Quoc-Ha Tien, Rach Gia-Nam Du and the districts of Kien Hai District have halted operation since July 11 to ensure passenger safety.
