A 40-kilo turtle has been tangled by fishermen's nets in the central province of Quang Tri.

A 40-kilo turtle has been tangled by fishermen's nets in the central province of Quang Tri.

The turtle was found to be stuck in the net of a group of three fishermen in Trieu Van Commune in Trieu Phong District in the area which is some three nautical miles from shore.

The turtle weighs around 40 kilogrammes


After detecting the animal, the fishermen quickly helped it out of the net and reported the case to local authorities.

The management board of Con Co Island Conservation Area gave the turtle a medical check before releasing it into the wild.

According to Tran Khuong Canh, deputy head of the management board of Con Co Island Conservation Area, with the scientific name Lepidochelys olivacea, this is one of seven old turtles in the world and is listed among rare and endangered species.

Around 100 turtles have been rescued in Quang Tri since 2019.
