Traffic accidents killed 63 during three-day holiday

As many as 63 people died from traffic accidents during the three-day Hung Kings holiday, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee.

There were 83 traffic accidents which killed 63 people and left 56 injured, the committee said.

The figures included one accident on local waterway and one on a railway, killing one and injuring one.

The most serious accident happened in the northern province of Lang Son on the early morning of April 17 when a taxi plunged into a lake, killing four people inside.

Investigations said that the taxi driver who was driving at high speed lost control at a bend in the road.

Statistics from the committee showed an average 24 people died daily from traffic accidents a day in the first quarter of this year.
