Top Vietnam leader departs for China state visit

General Secretary and State President To Lam left Hanoi on April 14 for a four-day state visit to China at the invitation of Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

Lam is accompanied by his spouse Ngo Phuong Ly and a high level Vietnamese delegation including senior party and government officials.

The delegation includes politburo members and key leaders such as Tran Cam Tu, Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Phan Van Giang, Luong Tam Quang, Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Le Hoai Trung, Doan Minh Huan and Tran Duc Thang, along with other ministers and officials.

This marks Lam’s first state visit to China in his capacity as the country’s top leader. It follows Xi’s state visit to Vietnam in April 2025 and is the third exchange between the two countries’ top leaders in less than two years.
