Hanoi declares landslide emergency at Soc Temple tourist site

Hanoi has declared a state of emergency over a landslide risk at the Soc Temple Cultural Tourism Site after prolonged heavy rain caused severe slope instability.

Inspections found large cracks, soil movement, erosion and exposed tree roots on two hillsides within the site in Soc Son Commune, raising the risk of further landslides, particularly if heavy rain continues.

Authorities said one hillside has developed cracks up to 1.3 metres wide, forming a nearly 100-metre-long potential landslide zone, while another has suffered surface erosion and soil collapse, threatening an internal road used by visitors and site management staff.

The city has ordered emergency measures, including continuous monitoring, slope stabilisation, warning signs, restricted access to hazardous areas and public safety campaigns.

Soc Son Commune has been instructed to implement emergency mitigation measures and work with relevant agencies on a long-term stabilisation plan.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment will oversee the response and monitor weather conditions and slope stability until the emergency is lifted.
