A decree on advertisements has just been issued, which stipulates fines of up to VND100 million (USD5,000) for violations.

Decree 158, which stipulates administrative punishments for the advertising industry, will apply a fines of VND40-50 million on those who publicly advertise products such as tobacco, liquor with alcohol content exceeding 15 proof and prescription drugs.
Also, advertisers claiming that agricultural dairy can healthily replace breast-milk for children under 24 months of age, nutritional supplements for children under six months, and others will be subject to the same fines.
Advertisements for aphrodisiacs, guns and ammunition or sporting weapons will be punished with a higher fine of VND70-100 million. The decree also imposes a fine of VND50-70 million for deceptive advertisements which provide false information about products origin, duration, effects or labels.
Advertisers who paste leaflets onto electricity power poles, traffic poles or public trees will also be punished with a fine from VND1-2 million and forced to remove those leaflets.
The decree will go into effect from January 1, 2014.
