Three Vietnamese citizens who recently returned from Japan and Germany have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,497, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday evening.

According to the ministry's report, one of the three newly-infected patients is a 26-year-old man who arrived from Japan at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on December 20, 2020.
He was sent to a quarantine area in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in his second testing on January 3.
He is now being treated at the Long Dien District Healthcare Centre.
The other two female patients aged 40 and 3 returned from Germany at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on December 30, 2020.
They were sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival and are now being treated at a local hospital.
Earlier, five other people who boarded the same flight with them were also infected with SARS-CoV-2.
With these new infection cases, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 803.
As of 6 pm on January 4, a total of 1,339 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
At present, over 19,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
