Three members of the 18-strong crew of a fishing boat that sunk after a gas explosion on September 16 of the coast of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province have been rescued.

Three members have the 18-strong crew of a fishing boat that sunk after a gas explosion on September 16 of the coast of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province have been rescued.

Rescue boat to search for missing fishermen

The boat was heading back to shore after a fishing trip at some time around 3am when the gas cylinder on the boat exploded. The boat sunk immediately 25 nautical miles from Con Dao Island and 75 nautical miles from Vung Tau. Strong wind and bad weather hindered the search. Other boats operating nearby were asked to help with the search.

Fisherman Tran Van Khoa was rescued by another fishing boat. And at 9.40pm, another fishing boat nearby reported that they rescued two other fishermen.

After talking with the fishermen, the Maritime Search and Rescue Centre Area 3 confirmed that there were 20 fishermen on the boat initially, however, before the accident, two fishermen transferred to another boat.

The Maritime Search and Rescue Centre Area 3 are working with coastal guards and other fishing boats in the area are braving bad weather to search for the 15 remaining fishermen.
