A report by the Nghe An Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue said that by Wednesday afternoon over 1,600 houses had been flooded.

"The rains that lasted from September 25-29 with average rainfalls of between 200-350mm had submerged many areas and isolated thousands of people," the report said. "139 people had to be evacuated in Ky Son District. Nearly 5,000 hectares of crops had been damaged and nearly 2,400 cattle and poultry have died in the floods."

As the floods rose in local rivers, Ban Ve Hydropower Reservoir had to release water. Many other hydropower plants also had to regulate water levels.

It is forecasted that heavy rains will continue in northern central and northern regions on September 28 with average rainfall of 30-70mm and even over 100 mm in some areas in 24 hours.
