Hanoi authorities conducted Covid-19 testing for these men before they joined the army. All of them tested negative for the virus.

Around 68.9% of people eligible for national service have met the health requirements. Those with university, college and vocation training degrees accounted for 43% of the total, while 30% voluntarily joined the army.

The amended Law on Military Duty, which has taken effect since 2016, has some amendments such as the extension of military training service from 18 months to 24 months; one recruitment session in February or March would take place every year, instead of two; raising the age of eligibility for military service among those who attend higher education institutions from 18 to 27; and raising of the eligibility age among those who do not pursue higher education from 18 to 25.
