Thanh Hoa suffers USD90.89m flood losses

The northern central province of Thanh Hoa has estimated losses of around VND2 trillion (USD90.89 million) due to recent floods.

The floods which happened late August in the province’s northern districts of Cam Thuy, Quan Hoa and Muong Lat. Among those, Muong Lat has been hardest hit with the loss of roughly VND1 trillion.

Muong Lat District has been hardest hit by recent floods 


The floods left 10 people dead, two injured and two others missing. Up to 307 local houses have been totally destroyed, while 13,000 have been submerged and 800 others have been partially damaged or swept away. Hundreds of households also needed to be evacuated.

Hundreds of classrooms in the province were inundated. The floods have damaged 3,500 hectares of rice and 700 hectares of crops. Medical centres and transport works were also affected.

To date, many areas in Muong Lat have been isolated.

Thanh Hoa Province have asked the government for a financial support of VND900 billion (USD40.91 million) and 1,000 tonnes of rice.
