According to the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, the storm ravaged many localities in the northern and central regions, including Hanoi, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Binh.

Storm Talas caused heavy rains in the central region of Vietnam
By July 18, the storm damaged nearly 6,000 houses with the majority in Nghe An Province. It also sunk 64 fishing boats.
The centre also reported that up to 47,632 hectares of crops have been affected by the storm; meanwhile, as many as 295,000 trees were felled with Nghe An Province being the hardest hit.
Storm Talas swept away and killed more than 20,000 poultry, damaging 4,500 electricity pylons and roughly 800 hectares of seafood farms.
