According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the eye of typhoon Nakri was located at around 13.5 degrees north latitude and 116.4 degrees east longitude, at about 320 kilometres from the northeastern part of the Southwest Cay islet of the Spratly Islands.
In the next 72- 96 hours, the dangerous zone will move toward the west- northwest with the rapid speed of 10- 15 kilometres an hour.
By 1pm November 10, the tropical storm will move in the territorial waters from Danang to Binh Thuan provinces. The southeastern region of Vietnam would also be affected by the storm.Localities from Danang to Khanh Hoa Province would see rains on November 9-12.
Around 47,330 ships and fishing boats in the vulnerable localities have been informed of the typhoon. However, to date, authorities have still failed to contact three fishing boats from Quang Ngai.
Meanwhile, 31 ships from Binh Dinh Province are seeking support to contact Filippino authorities to allow for shelter.
The Quang Ngai Province People’s Committee has issued an urgent dispatch to the National Committee for Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue, the Consular Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about assistance for fishing boats and fishermen from the province to dock in the territorial waters of the Philippines to avoid Typhoon Nakri.
According to a brief report of the Border Guard Command of Quang Ngai province, six Quang Ngai vessels crewed by 260 fishermen were near the tropical storm. The province suggested they should land at Luzon Island in the Philippines to avoid the natural disaster.
Colonel Tran Van Dinh, head of the Search and Rescue Department of Border Guard High Command, said that nearly 5,000 soldiers have been prepared for any rescues.
