The police in District 1, HCM City said on January 4 that they had detained a South Korean man, Noh Daeryong, born in 1978 for an investigation into the death of a woman from Ca Mau Province.
A neighbour discovered the woman's body at 1 pm on January 1. The police in District 1 quickly arrived after receiving the report.

According to the police, they checked the security camera and noticed that the South Korean man came and knocked on the woman's apartment around the time of the death. They then tried to find him at two of his registered addresses in District 7 and Binh Chanh District. However, he was not at home and no one knew where he had gone.
At 4.30 on January 2, the police found the man at Thai Binh Market. They followed his taxi and detained him. At the time, he was carrying the woman's iPhone 6S and the keys of the apartment.
