Dozens of households in the northern mountainous province of Son La have had to relocate after a recent flash flood damaged local houses and roads.

Flash flood caused huge damage to Son La Province.

According to Muong La District People's Committee, from August 16 to 19, the rains and flash flood affected 42 houses and forced 23 households to evacuate. Eight road sections, three electricity pylons and many other constructions were damaged. Estimated damage reached VND700m (USD30,000).

The district authorities have sent employees to help with the repair and asked local people to join hands together to fix the houses. As of now, 19 households have had to temporarily move to relatives.

Heavy rains also caused landslides and erosion at many roads and 22 houses. One household had to be evacuated. 17ha of rice was submerged and one water supply construction was damaged. The total damage is estimated at VND2.4bn (USD103,000).

Muong La People's Committee announced that 34 households in Muong Bu Commune will be relocated. The floors of 12 houses had large cracks and 22 other houses face erosion threats. Three electric pylons are also affected.
