A truck hits a motorbike in Phu Yen Province, leaving three dead on November 26.

Police in Song Cau Town in the southern province of Phu Yen yesterday reported that a woman and her two children died after being hit by a truck that was reversing on National Road 1 on the afternoon of November 26.

"The woman, 41, was carrying her 17-year-old son and six-year-old daughter on a motorbike when the accident happened," the police said. "We've detained the truck driver, Tran Huu Duong, 37, for the investigation."


Duong told the police that while driving from Quang Ngai Province to HCM City, he dropped by a roadside restaurant to have lunch. And when he returned to his truck and had driven for some 100 metres, he noticed that he had forgotten his mobile phone at the restaurant. He decided to reverse to collect it and suddenly hit the motorbike.

The same morning, another tragic accident also occurred in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue between a dumper truck and a motorbike, leaving a pregnant woman and her two children dead.

Reports from police in Hue City said that the 33-year-old woman, Ngo Thi Minh, was carrying her twin daughters aged seven to visit her parents when being hit by the truck which was running in the same direction at the Vo Nguyen Giap- Van Tien Dung Intersection. The collision left the woman, who was in the seventh month of pregnancy and her twin daughters dead on the spot.


The dumper truck driver was also detained for investigation into the accident.
