A newspaper reporter and representatives of Nghia Dan District People's Committee visited the family of Vi Thi Luc and handed over the donation on March 24.

The elderly woman said that the family also received over VND 50 million which donors sent to their bank account.

Vice chairman of Trung Thanh Commune People's Committee, Dinh Trong Tai expressed sincere thanks to all the kind donors who sent money to support Luc's family.

"This is the most deprived family in our area," the official said. "We’ve also raised money from local people to build a new house for them. They're also receiving a state subsidy but they still face numerous difficulties. We’re very moved that they have received lots of sympathy and support from many kind donors after their story was published on Dantri.

Vi Thi Luc, 85, is living with her two daughters and a granddaughter in a small house that has just been built by local authorities. Their life is difficult due to poverty and diseases.

Luc's husband died many years ago, leaving her four daughters. Only her first daughter is healthy but she lives far away after getting married. The three others have suffered sickness and one died.

The elderly woman now has to care for her two youngest daughters Ha Thi Loan, 58, and Ha Thi Linh, 49, who have both developed mental problems since their 20s. Linh got married with a daughter but then soon divorced and brought her daughter to live with Luc after her divorce.
