Shop owner charged over counterfeit Nike, Gucci shoes

Phu Tho Police Department has seized 1,115 pairs of shoes suspected of counterfeiting Adidas, Nike and Gucci at a local shop.

The police also confiscated about 500 boxes, product tags and labels bearing famous brand names.

Working with police, the shop owner, Nguyen Van Chung, 35, admitted that he ordered, processed and produced the fake products for sale at his shop for illicit profit.

He also used boxes, product tags and labels carrying famous trademarks to convince customers of the products' origin and quality.

A conclusion by the National Office of Intellectual Property under the Ministry of Science and Technology found that the shoe samples submitted for examination were counterfeit goods infringing protected trademarks. The 1,115 pairs of shoes seized were valued at about VND 253 million (USD 9,800).

Phu Tho Province Police Department has decided to prosecute Nguyen Van Chung on a charge of infringing industrial property rights under Clause 1, Article 226 of the Criminal Code.
