According to the Ministry of National Defense, the incident occurred at the Centre for Bomb and Mine Disposal Technology under the Sapper Force on the morning of May 18th at Binh Thanh Commune, Tay Son District. The soldiers were trying to settle bullets and shells when a shell exploded.
The two who died are Lieutenant Colonel Tran Tuan Khanh, 48, in Thai Binh Province and Major Nguyen Quang Hinh, 48, in Hanoi. They have been taken to Phu Phong General Hospital in Binh Dinh before being transported to their hometowns for funerals services.
The others injured are being treated at Military Hospital 13 in Binh Dinh Province’s Quy Nhon City.
The Ministry of National Defense is investigating the cause of the accident.
The Centre for Bomb and Mine Disposal Technology is located far from residential areas, so, no civilians were harmed.
