Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee have just proposed a construction plan for the Sa Pa National Tourist Area in Sa Pa town by 2040.
According to the proposal, the Sa Pa National Tourist Area will cover some 6,090 hectares mostly within Sa Pa Town.
It will be built into a top cultural and ecological tourist centre in the Southeast Asian region.
Speaking about the project at a conference held on July 13, Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Trinh Xuan Truong claimed the development of Sa Pa National Tourist Area by 2040 would create legal frameworks and resources to solve problems of tourism planning, urban planning and living space for local ethnic groups.
The committee estimates that Sa Pa National Tourist Area would have a population of 210,000 people by 2040 and expect to receive 12 million visitors annually including three million international tourists.
