Russian President approves space cooperation agreement with Vietnam

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ratified an inter-governmental agreement on bilateral cooperation in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes, according to Russian news agency ITAR-TASS.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ratified an inter-governmental agreement on bilateral cooperation in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes, according to Russian news agency ITAR-TASS.

The full text of the cooperation agreement was published on the Russia Federation Council’s official website on July 22.

The deal was originally signed by the two governments in Hanoi on November 7, 2012 during a visit by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to Vietnam. It aims build a legal foundation for the establishment and development of cooperation in such areas as remote sensing, satellite navigation and communications, medicine, and space biology.

The agreement also governs issues related to protection of intellectual property rights, information exchange, the importer’s use of guaranteed products and technologies and resolution procedures.

Ratification of the agreement is expected to clear the way for implementation of a GLONASS satellite navigation system cooperation project between the two countries.
