Over the past week, Covid-19 patients at Field Hospital 7 in An Khanh Ward, Thu Duc District, are being served by the two robots.

Captain Nguyen Dinh Quan from the Military Technology Academy said that he and another colleague have been assigned to operate the robots named Vibot which specialises in providing medical equipment and meals for patients.

The robots are among six manufactured by the academy following the Ministry of Health’s approval. Through the robots’ screen, doctors can communicate with patients for medical check-up.

Every day, the robots take food from the underground floor of the hospital and then bring it to rooms for patients automatically. The speaker helps to remind patients of coming out to receive their food. Then, they need to wave at the right corner of the robots three times to signal that the robot can move on to the next room.

Doctor Tran Minh Tuan from the hospital said that earlier without the robots, it took a group of six to seven people around two hours to deliver food to patients on 10 floors. Now, each robot can cover five floors in an hour.

However, after the one-week trial at the hospital, the robot has been operated on a semi-automatic basis due to the complicated terrain at the hospital with many stairs.

Hoang Ai My, a patient at the hospital, said that the robots help to reduce Covid-19 infections. But, sometimes, she failed to hear the robot when the doors are closed.

Earlier, the robots were also brought to some hospitals in Hanoi, Bac Giang and Ha Nam to support Covid-19 patients.
When the battery is full, the robots can be operated continuously for eight hours. Each robot can transport a maximum of 120 kilos.
