Many people often leave their jobs at Tet to stay at home, while others want to start a new year with a new job, hoping that it will fare better than the last.

This year, HCM City Export Processing and Industrial Zone Authority (Hepza) Office Manager Tran Cong Khanh said as of February 6, about 95% of workers have returned to work after Tet Holiday. Trade unions have made greater efforts to collaborate with firms to give more supportive policies.

According to Khanh, the 7-day holiday is long enough. "As of February 6, 95% of workers had returned to work, the rate will continue to increase to 98%," he said.

In addition, most enterprises pay wages and bonuses during this time which further motivate people to go to work.

Nguyen Thi Huong, a worker at Yamaha Moto Vietnam, Noi Bai Industrial Zone, said, "We’re cared for here. After Tet Holiday, we were given lucky money by the managers which made everyone more eager to go to work."

Since 2010, Canon Vietnam Company has held a new year meeting ceremony and an employee competition to motivate workers. Pham Thi Van Anh, head of the company's labour union said the return to work rate has always been 99%.

Nguyen Thi Tuyen, head of Hanoi Trade Union Federation said they had sent out six teams to visit and give encouragements to workers as part of attempts to raise awareness about office discipline.
