Hoang Thu Trang from the Marketing Department of Furama Resort Danang said they had offered a 30% discount to the residents in Danang and Thua Thien-Hue provinces. A resort villa for a group of four to six people costs VND4.9m (USD212), while the main hotel accommodation hasn’t yet opened.

"When social distancing rules are relaxed more, we'll reopen more services like opening the pools all hours," Trang said. "Because of the heatwave, many families in our area also want to go to the resorts to relax."

Nguyen Van Duan, director of Muong Thanh Luxury Danang Hotel, said they had 40-50% discount programmes. They mostly receive local residents during the weekends.

Khanh Hoa provincial authorities are trying to boost the local tourism industry by attracting residents. The Department of Tourism has worked with Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa Tourism Association to develop two nights and one day tours to various destinations, hotels and resorts.

Five-star hotels and resorts in Cam Ranh also launched the Summer Staycation 2021 Programme with reasonable prices.

It costs VND1.3m (USD56) for a room at Wyndham Grand Resort with breakfast. The cost at Movenpick Resort and Radisson Blu Resort is VND2.25m and VND1.99m respectively. According to the resorts, they only receive bookings for small groups.

Nguyen Phi Hong Nguyen, CEO of Viet Promotion Company, said, "We encourage local residents to try tourism services in their area to support the industry while ensuring Covid-19 prevention."
