Many street pavements in Hanoi are being repaved, troubling local people.
The work has been going on over the past month on many streets, including Hao Nam, Giang Vo and Xa Dan in Dong Da District. This has worsened the city’s air and noise pollution.
“The pavement work has badly affected our family’s shop. We also have to suffer from the noise and dust,” said Hoang Lan who lives on Hao Nam Street.
Work on the pavement section on Xa Dan Street has been almost finished, but the site remains messy. Earlier, people who live nearby complained about the noise from the site due to the loud sound of stone-cutting tools.
Many people said pavement maintenance and upgrading should be carried out throughout the year rather than just concentrated in the final months as this was peak business season for many traders.
