20/08/2021The Ministry of Health has proposed recognising frontline medical staff that die on Covid-19 prevention and control activities.
Associate Prof. Dr. Pham Thanh Binh, chairman of the Ministry of Health’s Trade Union, said that to date, around 2,380 medical staff in Vietnam have been infected with Covid-19, including two deaths in HCM City and Binh Duong.
Binh added that 200 medical teams with a total of 12,000 people have been sent to the southern region to support the Covid-19 fight.
The Ministry of Health has asked management agencies to care for medical workers and their relatives in the Covid-19 fight.
"We have recommended better food for medical staff and those who have been assigned to support other localities’ Covid-19 fight should be given assistance of VND2 million each. An additional 20,000 health insurance cards also need to be provided to medical staff, including 10,000 for people serving Covid-19 prevention and control activities in other cities and provinces. Each card has the value of VND50 million (USD2,173)," Binh noted.
According to the union, each medical team should only be sent to other localities for the support for two months to ensure their health. Each province and city needs to set up a psychological consulting centre to help medical staff.
The union has also suggested presenting certificates of merits for medical staff serving in the Covid-19 fight.
Binh added that Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long has agreed on recognising medical staff that die while serving Covid-19 prevention and control activities as martyrs. The Ministry of Health will submit the proposal to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs for consideration.
Ngo Duy Hieu, vice president of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, said that the agency will consider the Ministry of Health’s opinion.
