VND700m donated to the parents who is being treated at Bach Mai Hospital

All four members of a family in Ban May Commune, Hoang Su Phi District, were in critical condition. Dr Ta Anh Tuan, head of the ER department at the National Children's Hospital, said the 7-year-old and 4-year-old children had liver failure, multi-organ failure and were given blood dialysis.

Their parents, Sung Seo Hoa and Ma Thi Giong, are in critical condition at Bach Mai Hospital.

Due to poverty, the family often went to the forest to find food. On April 6, their grandfather found some mushrooms in the forest and gave it all to his son's family. During the next day, all four members suffered from stomachache and nausea and were brought to hospital.

After their story was published, many people have donated to help them. On April 15, the representative of Dantri visited the parents at Bach Mai Hospital to transfer the donation of VND700m.

Nguyen Quang Tuan, director of Bach Mai Hospital, said, "We are facing some difficulties amid the outbreak and after a long quarantine. There are many works to do so we really appreciate everyone's help for the patients."

Many people also donated VND100m to the children via National Children's Hospital. Unfortunately, because of severe poisoning, the children died on April 15. Their parents are in a coma and had severe liver failure.

"We hope that the patients will pull through. There are cases where patients were able to recover well and in other cases, they need a liver transplant. We are monitoring their situation and prepare for all possibilities," said Nguyen Trung Nguyen from the Poison Control Centre, Bach Mai Hospital.

Six relatives have taken liver compatibility tests. Bach Mai Hospital has contacted Hospital 108 and Vietnam-Germany Hospital in case both parents need liver transplants. The cost of a transplant is over VND1bn.

"We hope that the community will continue helping the parents so they can survive," Nguyen said.
