Le Van Hien, who lives in group 48 of the ward, discovered the turtle in his family’s garden at about 12.30 pm on March 3.
Recognising it as a rare wild species, Hien reported the find and voluntarily surrendered the animal for handling in accordance with regulations.
The turtle weighs 1.7 kilogrammes and measures 27 centimetres in length and 17 centimetres in width. Forest rangers confirmed it was in normal health when it was received under proper procedures.
