The Cu Lao Cham Nature Reserve Management Board said that the turtle was rescued after being found trapped in fishing gear in waters off Bai Huong on Cu Lao Cham Island on January 26.

The turtle, weighing about 3 kilogrammes with a carapace length of 50 centimetres, was discovered by a local fisherwoman, who promptly alerted authorities after recognising it as a protected species.
Rangers confirmed the animal was in good health and showed no signs of injury before completing procedures for its release.
Hawksbill turtles are listed as critically endangered and prioritised for protection. The turtle’s appearance in the Bai Huong area was seen as a positive sign for the local marine ecosystem, highlighting the area’s biodiversity.
Cu Lao Cham Nature Reserve, part of Danang, covers more than 23,500 hectares, including extensive marine and island areas, and is known for its rich terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
