This information was revealed by the provincial Forest Service at a workshop jointly held with the Viet Nature Conservation Centre on August 13 in Dong Hoi city.

The money will be used during the 2014-2019 period to protect the biodiversity and the unique values of the ecosystem in a 20,000-hectare stretch of evergreen broad-leaved tree forest.

This stretch of forest ranges from the southwest of Quang Binh province to the northwest of Quang Tri province.

In addition to protecting the biodiversity and enhancing forest management, the project will help develop means of livelihood for residents living near the protected area.

At the workshop, the Viet Nature Conservation Centre and the Quang Binh Forest Service also announced the results of a survey on biodiversity, conducted using camera traps in the Nuoc Trong area since 2011.

The survey found 57 wild species of animal, including eight near-threatened species and four rare species, namely the saola, giant muntjac, Truong Son muntjac and the Annamite striped rabbit.
